It’s Sunday and I’m two days away from starting a new job after a week off. There’s no better time in the world to take care of yourself when you’re transitioning from one job to another, especially if you’re just leaving a job that left your personnel a little burnt out. If things have been out of order in your life, now is the time to take hold of everything. Start by committing to some good habits before you get back on the grind.
- Wake Up Early – Having the week off to transition between jobs is a great time to relax and take things at your own pace. It’d be a shame if you slept through it all! I’m not suggesting waking up at 6 every morning but definitely wake up sometime before 8 or 9 so that you can get into the habit of a morning routine.
- Develop a Morning Routine – If you’re like me, mornings can be a bit of a scramble. I’ve found that if I make a list of things to do in the morning, I’m more likely to wake up on time to make room for myself and a few things around the house before I’m out the door at 7:30 a.m.
- Take a Walk/ Do Some Yoga – Give yourself enough time in the morning to go out for a walk, or to do a quick flow of yoga. If you’re at a desk job and don’t have the chance to walk around often during the day, this will give you a little extra boost in the morning.
- Keep in Touch with Friends/Family – Especially the ones you love the most and haven’t had a chance to say hello to.
- Renew an old hobby – Everyone enjoys doing something. Whether it’s knitting, photography, cooking, baking, or anything else you can think of, make sure you indulge your hobbies!
- Read a good book – I just finished listening to Tina Fey’s Bossy Pants audiobook, and I highly recommend it. Use this week to get in the habit of reading more often. Click here to see what’s next on my reading list.
- Prepare for your new job! – This should be a no-brainer, but I’ll put it here anyway. This week while you’re recalibrating, set aside some time to prepare for your new job. This can include reading up on any helpful documents, learning the tools you’ll be using in your new position, or simply going out to buy new supplies for the office. Do what will help you be prepared for your first day.
