Today my job hosted an employee forum on Policing and Race in America. It was great in the sense of providing a space for conversation but knowing we still have a ways to go.
A few ideas that sat with me and that I would like to hold on to:
- We are in a conflict of identities, and it is often difficult for us to remove ourselves from…well…ourselves, in order to come to a place of understanding and empathy for each other.
- Just as it is important that we push for people to think broadly ad about each others experiences, it is just as important to do the same for those that we grossly disagree with—the first step to mutual understanding might not always start with your point of view.
