The end is nigh! The internship is wrapped up and I move back on to campus in a couple of days. This semester I have a show I’ll be assistant stage managing, an internship and I’ll be on our UMD Bateman Team for PRSSA, and next spring I graduate. I am obviously excited, but I also can’t but help to feel a tinge of anxiety when I think about it sometimes because there’s SO MUCH GOING ON.
I am sharing my goals with you because by sharing goals with other people I feel inclined to keep those promises to you, rather than keeping them to myself.
Get the full UMD senior experience.
There are several UMD milestones that are supposed to be met before we graduate including swimming in the fountain on the mall or rubbing every Testudo’s nose on campus (among other things). Then there’s going to all the games and overall being a proud Terp.
Kick off my starter project no later than mid October.
I keep talking about a photography project that I want to start that will cater to boosting young black girl’s confidence in their beauty. I always say, “I want to do this,” but in October I should be saying, “I am doing this.”
Say “No.” more often.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about myself it’s that I have this tendency to take the whole world onto my shoulders and then regret it all afterward when I’m in a stressed out puddle of tears. It’s okay to say no when I’m feeling overwhelmed and to ask for help when I’m struggling and it’s time for me to fully understand this.
Write more often.
I will be blogging more often! Or if I’m too busy with the school year, I will be at least journaling. The only way you become a better writer is by writing more (and by reading more!). I will implement a weekly blogging requirement for myself and if anything write in bulk so that there will not be a week without a blog post or a journal entry.
Hit the gym.
Exercising gives you endorphins, endorphins make you happy! Happy people just don’t kill their husbands! They just don’t. Elle Woods is right, and so to spare future husbands and current friends and colleagues, I’ll go to the gym. It’s a good way to gain that special “me” time and who knows maybe I’ll perfect an inversion during a yoga session this year 😉
